  • Mike R Wilson, PhD

    Mike R Wilson, PhD: Assistant Professor

    Dr. Wilson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncology at Wayne State University, a member of the Karmanos Cancer Institute Molecular Therapeutics Program and an adjunct member of the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development. He received a B.S. in Cell & Molecular Biology from Grand Valley State University in 2011 and a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Wayne State University in 2016. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Michigan State University in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Biology in 2022, where he was funded by an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowship Award and a National Cancer Institute K99 Transition to Independence Award. Mike is also a cancer patient advocate and fundraises on behalf of Real Men Wear Pink.

  • Jessica Long, MS

    Jessica Long, MS: MD/PhD student

    Jessica Long is a second-year student in the WSU MD/PhD program. She is from Raleigh, NC, and received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from UNCG. While completing her degree Jessica ran DI cross country and did analytical chemistry research in the Oberlies Lab. Following her undergraduate program, she completed her Master of Biotechnology at Northwestern University and worked as a Variant Scientist at Tempus, a cancer precision-medicine company. In July of 2022, she started at Wayne State. She intends to complete her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology. In her free time, she enjoys teaching biology, traveling, hiking, rock climbing, and spending time with her Airedale Terrier and significant other.

  • Swornalata Pukhrambam

    Swornalata Pukhrambam, BS: Research Assistant and Lab Manager

    Ms. Pukhrambam (aka Sworna) has a BS degree in Biology. She has several years of research in diabetic eye disease, particularly in cell biology, biochemical and molecular studies. She also is experienced in animal studies of diabetic retinopathy and vision research in maintaining animal colonies and genotyping. She has several manuscripts published from previous laboratories. Currently, Sworna is involved in cancer research, specifically endometrial cancer mechanism and etiology. She is also one who likes to keep the working place clean and organized. At home, she loves gardening, walking and traveling.

  • Sophia Agrusa

    Sophia Agrusa, BS: Research Assistant

    Sophia is a research associate at Wayne State and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Grand Valley State University in 2023. During her undergraduate studies she assisted on research projects regarding drug therapies in malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, identifying protein isoforms, and alternative RNA splicing events in breast cancer at The Van Andel Institute. She is interested in the biology and cellular mechanisms behind cancer formation and metastases, with the hopes of contributing research that may aid in patient treatment options. In her free time Sophia's hobbies include reading, gaming, and spending time with friends and family.

  • Rayyan Syed

    Rayyan Syed: Undergraduate Fellow

    Rayyan is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Wayne State University. He has a strong passion for healthcare and volunteer work and serves on the board of multiple undergraduate student organizations at Wayne. Some of these positions include President of Wayne State Future Pediatrics, Vice President of Wayne State DEM, and outreach coordinator for Wayne State Rising Refugees. He hopes to go to medical school and become a practicing physician. Rayyan's hobbies include playing and watching sports such as the NFL, soccer, and cricket. Rayyan is currently funded by the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program to study endoplasmic reticulum stress in endometrial cancer.

  • Amina Haq

    Amina Haq: Undergraduate Fellow

    Amina is a third-year college student at Wayne State University majoring in Public Health and Neuroscience, on the pre-med track. She has always been interested in healthcare and has been exposed to the field of medicine since she was a child. She has had the opportunity to shadow many well renowned physicians affiliated with Henry Ford Hospital and participate in volunteering clinics. She also serves on board for Wayne State’s Future Pediatrics Club, which helps make an impact fighting social health determinants in children's health. She is the founder and president of Indian Muslim Students' Association at Wayne State and participates in an interfaith committee. In her free time, she enjoys watching sports like soccer and the NFL, spending time with my family and friends, and traveling. She hopes to conduct meaningful medical research making a difference in people's lives as well as continue to stay consistent in community involvement and undergraduate organizations. Amina is currently funded by the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program to study PD-L1 expression in endometrial cancer.

  • Areebah Qazi

    Areebah Qazi: Undergraduate Fellow

    Areebah is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Wayne State University on the pre-med track. She possesses a deep dedication to contributing to healthcare and serving the community. Her aspirations lie in attending medical school and pursuing a career as a physician. As part of her commitment to the community, she serves as the youth coordinator for Pakistan Children’s Relief USA, intending to support disadvantaged children, and has completed a fellowship with Rising Voices, who aim to promote youth leadership. She is also a certified phlebotomy technician and currently works as a nursing aide at a Corewell Health Surgery Center, where she has gained numerous opportunities to shadow physicians spread across different fields. In her free time, Areebah enjoys exploring cafes in metro Detroit and reading books. In Summer 2024, Areebah was selected for the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience through the WSU School of Medicine.

  • Juveria Ali

    Juveria Ali: Undergraduate Fellow

    Juveria is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Wayne State University. She is majoring in Public Health Honors on the pre-med track. Juveria is President of Rising Refugees and Co-President of Future Pediatrics, both undergraduate student organizations at WSU. As such, her passions include aiding underserved populations, human rights activism, and health equity. She is fluent in both English and Urdu. She has had numerous experiences in a variety of healthcare settings. Juveria is also a current volunteer at Downriver Community Clinic. She hopes to make an impact in the research effort of this lab, especially in broadening the amount of women's health research in general. Outside of all this, Juveria's hobbies include reading, team sports, and trying out any new places with her friends. Some of her other interests are travel, fashion, and environmental protection. In Sumer 2024, Juveria wasLselected for the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship through the Department of Oncology.

  • Sneha Aradhya: BCAP student

    Sneha Aradhya: BCAP student

    Sneha is a third-year high school student at Northville High School. She has a great interest in the field of biology and hopes to become a doctor in the future. She is actively involved with her school’s Science Olympiad team, competing in various regional and state invitationals, and serves as a board member for her school's Biology Olympiad club. She is also a member of her school’s journalism club that writes for the Northville city magazine called The Ville. Outside of school, Sneha works as a tutor at Kumon and volunteers at her local hospital and for the American Red Cross. In her free time, she loves to listen to music, go for walks, and spend time with her family.
